Re: Ambrosial Wine Experiments
Mcpato I don't think the film was contam. Sounds more like a mother/scoby forming. If it was actively fizzy, then the CO2 was forming a blanket over the top which would keep contaminants from growing. This is how open vat brewing works and how brewing wine and beer has been done for millennia. I'm ...

@T36 That looks awesome!
Alright, @Mcpato I'm definitely going to do the bean fleece to select out the right one and get mine going. I gotta catch up to you guys!

Re: Ambrosial Wine Experiments
Mcpato I'm actually not expecting any moldy contaminants. Molds need oxygen to respirate and the jar should fill with CO2 once it gets going (that's why wild ferments in oxygen (acetobacter and lactobacillus to make vinegar (acetic acid) and lactic acid) can get moldy while anaerobic wild ferments ...

Ambrosial Wine Experiments
I'm starting this thread to open up discussion on the Ambrosial wine of the Ambrosia Society and for our own experiments! I love fermenting and have been (begrudgingly) not doing much lately because of how I feel about alcohol since starting on my Amanita journey. With some of the experiments (both ...

Re: Fleece cultivation
Mcpato If the fleece is truly a dimorphic Mucor (which feels right, but we'll see!) Then it should produce Ethanol, Carbon Dioxide, Water, and its own metabolitic byproduct (this varies from organism to organism). That fizzy grail may very well be your starter culture! If it were yeast, I'd just sc...

Re: Fleece cultivation
T36 Mucor molds in their yeast form produce ethanol, just like bread and brewer's yeasts. Just like a normal ferment, there comes a point where the alcohol content becomes high enough and the active cells die off. This is why you can't ferment high proof alcohol. To up the alcohol content, the resu...

Re: A recreational use of A. muscaria. tincture
I personally find tinctures to be my favorite way to take Amanitas medicinally. I find that 12-24 drops (1/2-1 dropper) of an unreacted tincture in 40% ethanol gives me the same general effects as taking about 3-5 grams of AM in tea form. For my tinctures, one dropper (as much as a single squeeze wi...

Re: Amanita Pantherina, aka, Panther Cap
amanita muscaria makes a good point. For me, some effects took time to feel. Those cumulative effects don't seem to change even with old mushrooms. Just because they are not active in the same way as newly harvested mushrooms, I feel they still have amazing properties. short3gears , If those mushro...

Re: Amanita Pantherina, aka, Panther Cap
Test night one: I tried 0.5 Oz chewed/swallowed at about 5:30pm short3gears This was 0.5 grams, correct? I personally would not expect any 'experience' at under 3 grams dry (taken at one time) with caps I harvested and dried myself. Do you know when the caps you have were harvested? If it was more ...
