A recreational use of A. muscaria. tincture

Basically, I use AM as a tonic tincture, specially in autumn, winter and beginning of spring, when I start using other two tonic tinctures made of pine pollen and nettle seeds, harvested in the same forests. Been taking these tinctures since 2014, and started with AM teas in 2005. I now prefer the t...

Mannitol in Amanita muscaria--an osmotic blood-brain barrier disruptor enhancing its hallucinogenic action?

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23932733 Abstract Hypothesis have been made that relatively high level of mannitol present in the tissues of fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) enables more efficient transportation of these active substances into the brain and thus enhance their total activity. It may...

Re: Dehumidifier instead of dehydrator

@Aquavitae Thank you! That is a serious machine, makes mine look like a toy. I'll see if the little one I have will work if confined to a smaller space, but am definitely thinking about going bigger on the one I have anyway. You are correct in considering the size of the space in which the drying t...

Re: Dehumidifier instead of dehydrator

@Aquavitae Those are some beautiful caps! What type of dehumidifier do you use? I have a small one and am wondering if I need to get something bigger. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge! We are all here to learn and share I think I use an LG dry master, more than 14 years old

Re: Dehumidifier instead of dehydrator

I consider there is much of art in this whole matter, like in whisky and other spirits brewing Of course, there is no ibotenic acid conversion to muscimol in this phase of the process. Decarboxylation of ibotenic acid comes later, during curation/aging while in storage, and heating, done separately,...

Re: Propagating Amanita Muscaria

Depending on how deep the spores, stipes, or other mushroom parts have to be buried, how about using a soil sampler to get it down there, by the roots, a few feet away from the tree? One could then stuff the material down the resulting hole, maybe in rolled up pellet ball form, made of clay, or tha...

Re: Propagating Amanita Muscaria

@Aquavitae I have seen squirrels do this with boletes. That is a good idea! Thank you! :D I know that squirrels dry their Boletes and Amanitas and later take them to their burrow, and in the meanwhile they help in propagation. Hedgehogs eat the Amanitas raw instead. I found one hedgehog trippin bal...

Re: Photos & Finds Thread

I found this small Amanita muscaria today, and remembered St. Walburgas miraculous oil phial in a tapestry: "...St. Walburga’s oil continues to flow every year from about October 12 to February 25, two of her feast days. It seeps from her relics through a thick slab of stone where it is collected an...
