Re: Amanita Pantherina, aka, Panther Cap
I haven't tried them myself (yet), but I know from H-G- Schaaf in Hamburg that whatever the fly agaric promises, the panther cap delivers... as he puts it... ;) According to him (and he knows his stuff - he sells fly agaric products in his shop), the panther cap can be treated just as the AM, but b...

in the UK, also wondered the same, my competition is deer and slugs though, whereabouts are you located?
Best.

Amanita Pantherina, aka, Panther Cap
I have competition from others where I collect my Amanita Muscaria. I see the evidence of discarded stipes. This is a problem for me, for it leaves very few for me to gather. But, the area has an abundance of Amanita Pantherinas , also known as Panther Caps, which are left alone and not picked by th...

Re: Preparing before drying
I'm in the U.K too, Icucmyclieum, and left hunting for AMs a bit late as well, because some books on mushrooms say that AMs appear in the autumn. Well autumn for me is from the Autumn equinox, September 21st to the Winter Solstice , December 21st. So, I thought I had plenty of time to go looking, bu...

Re: Curing Dried Amanita Muscaria
Ursus, would paper coffee filters do for the filtering?
Alchohol is fine with me.
Thank you for the two methods.
Best.

Re: Curing Dried Amanita Muscaria
The trouble is, is that this is all very new to me, and I haven't quite understood all the different processes, and contradictory once at that. I do not want to prepare a large batch, only for it to go off before I can use it all. On top of that, I haven't been able to gather enough AMs to experimen...

Re: Dehumidifier instead of dehydrator
Fantastic looking AMs there, Aquavitae.
Wish I hadn't left it so late looking for them.
I found a few, but they won't last me very long.
By next year though, I'll be more prepared with all the gear, and the knowledge of when and where to look in my area.
Best.

Re: Dehumidifier instead of dehydrator
I´ve tried both and find dehumidifier is better. Get cracker dry caps in less than 72 hours. It´s more expensive but it pays. I already had a dehumidifier before finding the first AM as I live in a very humid place. Tried drying them first with the oven, then dehydrator and lastly dehumidifier. Bee...

Re: cracker dry
I've bought some Kilner jars, and I have ordered off eBay the FooSaver Mason jar lid sealer. You can only get them from the US, so I'm expecting the Post Office will be asking me to pay for the customs duties when they arrive. I would imagine they would be suitable fir storing dried AMs. Here is a v...

Curing Dried Amanita Muscaria
Teeter says in his book, ‘Amanita Muscaria: Herb of Immortality’, that curing dried Amanitas for two to three months in a jar will convert the Ibotenic Acid to Muscimlo. Is this still seen as a viable method? I ask because my dehydrator cannot reach the higher temperature of 171.F to convert the Ibo...
