Here are my favorite popular literature and easy readings:
James Arthur. Mushrooms and Mankind. The Impact of Mushrooms on Human Consciusness and Religion.
Carl A P. Ruck, Mark A. Hoffman, Jose Alfredo Gonzales Celdiran. Mushrooms, Myth & Mithras. The Drug Cult that civilized Europe.
Graham Hancock. Supernatural. Meeting with the Ancient Teachers of Mankind.
And If someone is interested in 'hidden knowledge' about 'witch herbs in middle Europe' :
Claudia Müller-Ebeling, Christian Rätsch, Wolf-Dieter Storl. Witchcraft Medicine: Healing Arts, Shamanic Practices, and Forbidden Plants. (I don´t know if the english translation is good as the original.)

I've been reading about entheogens for decades, Wasson, Ruck, et al. but the best book I've found is The Sacred Secret: The Return of The Christ by Donald E. Teeter. It took a while to track down but can be printed on demand at Xlibris.com
