Amanita rookie needs id help

Post by Hulu » Mon Oct 12, 2020 6:45 pm

Hello,

I just came back from a trek across the Pyrrenese mountain, and I have come across a few amanita muscaria mushrooms.

Only thing is that they are red with light orange tint, sometimes with very few white warts on top.

Is that the amanita muscaria or something else?

I have also come across what I think is Amanita regalis, it is brown with white warts?

Thanks for the help.

probably not the right part of the forum for this, but either way we need the following to help with ID:

Approx where and when it was found
What Trees it was found near
picture of the cap
Picture of the gills
Picture of the stipe (stem) including the base (which needs to be dug up)

With all that info we can more reliably help ID the mushroom

I found them on the day the picture was taken, foaraged near the Pyrrenees mountains between pine trees, northern Spain.

I have seen your message late unfortunately, so the only pictures I have taken were these:

As you have noticed, I havent forged the majority with the stub, for I have thought that the cap color and white warts were unmistakable.

At the moment they are air drying with a fan, and I am unsure when they are ready.

But, if we are not able to id them, would you say it would still be safe for drinking after drying and parboiling regardless?

Some of those seem like almost definitely Muscaria not sure on the brown one might be Pantherina but perhaps someone else can comment

Thank you!

As for dosing, when I prepare them following the 1 water cup to 15 grams of Amanita, how much is 1 dose vs the recreational doses?

you do not know until you test it so start really small EVERY batch is different.
