It's what I got after a 25 min boil of the dried caps. I did take a 1/4 tsp dose yesterday.

Yes it looks dark ! Maybe the mushroom flesh was starting to ferment during the drying procedure. When it happens the color of the whole fungus turns dark brown. Oxidizing turns the red color to brown.

A little confession I have to make. While drying them, I have them just sitting in the oven with the fan running. No heat on at all, just the fan blowing. My wife decided to turn the temperature on the lowest setting without telling me. So they did get a little "cooked". Luckily I managed to catch it before they got burned. She didn't know.

Aaaah ! This could explain that !

I went to the woods again today. I started early so I could spend more time up there looking for Amanitas, for come tomorrow I won’t be able to go to the woods again for at least a couple of weeks due to work.
I think that by the time I’m able to go to the woods again, the season will be over, or am I mistaken in that?

I found fourteen Amanitas today, but they were all very small samples; nothing like the big samples shown in the photos on this thread. On average they are about 7.cm in diameter, some were bigger, some even smaller. They were found mainly by Silver Birches, in dense undergrowth, under brambles and ferns.
My shoes and jeans got sopping wet rummaging around the wet undergrowth.

I’m in competition with others though, for there is plenty of evidence of harvested Amanitas, such as discarded stipes, and untouched damaged Amanitas, which I left alone too.
I take the stipes of my finds with me though, so that the others won’t see any evidence of the competition they have from me.

Next year I’ll try to be more prepared, what with proper rambling shoes/boots, and maybe a hiking stick to knock the brambles away. And, to make a note to start looking in September, and not to leave it till end of October.

Hi guys, new here. Ive been out looking for amanita over the last few days on different locations, but Ive seen absolutelly zero signs of it. Is the season completely over? Im in slovenia, eu. Thanks for any tips!

Maybe it is quite cold there. Have you had negative temperatures yet ? If not they pop up after two rainy days in pine woods or birch woods. I think they are the most common in you area.
