Demystifying Decarboxylating Dehydrators?

Post by Mcpato » Tue Dec 03, 2019 3:03 pm

I am jumping into the deep end of the pool here, looking for a suitable dehydrator. I understand the decarb transformation of ibotenic acid to muscimol occurs in the 170° - 190° F range, but almost all dehydrators I've researched seem to have an upper range of 150°-165° F. I know Amanita Dreamer has recommended an Excalibur dehydrator, which also has that lower range, but she has mentioned that the maximum range is sufficient. I suppose my question is, what exactly am I looking for in a dehydrator for our purposes? I cultivate "living bread" which benefits from the decarb process, so I'll be using it quite a bit, but will any dehydrator with a max setting of 165° work? Thanks for any help in understanding a little better what i should look for!
