Why discard the mushroom solids from the filtrate?

Post by Matt » Tue Oct 20, 2020 11:49 pm

After heating in water, why are the mushroom solids tossed out? Since some cultures boil the mushrooms to remove the chemicals and discard the water keeping the mushroom to eat, why can't you just enjoy the whole mushroom if you're after the effects of the muscimol?

For what it's worth, I've sometimes done that, to no ill effect.

Of course you can eat the solids if you like. There are chefs who use the solid only in cooking and discard the psychoactive water once boiling is done. The solids are normally thrown out because they will make the 'tea' go bad faster. But if you are making a dose to be consumed immediately and not stored for later, of course I consume the whole thing including the solids.
