preparing amanita in oven. Questions.

Post by GreenDelta17 » Wed Sep 21, 2022 2:32 pm

Hi. I am preparing Amanita for the first time(it grows right outside my house in the forest) but I only got and oven. This oven the minimum temperature is 50C so I am drying them between 75C and 80C. My question is, Do I need to keep the door of the oven open? do I need a source of wind/air blowing on the mushrooms so they dry? what happens if I just keep them in the oven with the door closed and keeping it at the correct temperature?

Btw, if the mushrooms are dirty (because of dirt) do I need to clean them up? if that so what is the best approach?

I'm about to try this at 65 C for 1 hour on one side, then flip and 1 hour more on the other side.

It should probably be more like 74 C to do conversion, but I'm going to play it safe the first time so I don't accidentally roast them.

I did it just now and it came out fine. I tried for 65 C but the dial wasn't that precise and I think it was more like 75 C. Ideally next time I will have a thermometer in the oven.

The oven had different settings, one of which runs a fan, but I didn't feel like looking up in the instructions how they all worked and I stuck with the normal bake setting, with the door closed.

Just about cracker dry after 45 min on each side.
