I just started to see some success in transplanting some Panthers onto my own property. On two occasions now I've had a 1" or so cap just disappear overnight. Here in western WA state (US) we have tons of slugs this time of year. It may be slugs that are eating them or perhaps a squirrel or some other critter comes along and steals the whole thing. This is on private property where I'm sure there is no trespassing, so I'm ruling out other humans as the problem.
Does anyone have a good way of protecting growing Amanitas? I certainly don't want to use any kind of pesticide or chemicals or anything that the mushroom itself might pick up. I'm wondering if some kind of wire cage or other physical structure would be effective without affecting the growing of the mushroom.
Anybody have something that works in this scenario?
Cheers,
-Matt
Protecting Amanita from pests
Re: Protecting Amanita from pests
I saw the Shroomy guy on YouTube puts milk crates over amanita. Seemed to work well for him. Won't help with the slugs but should stop the critters.

Thanks, that's a good idea. Would keep away the deer, birds, and most squirrels. Something more would be needed for the slugs and mice. Perhaps chicken wire inside of a milk crate would work.
